Safeguarding Policy
At Ivy Light Therapy, safeguarding is central to the way we work. We are committed to protecting the safety, wellbeing and dignity of all individuals who access our services, including adults, young people and those who may be vulnerable.
Our commitment
We provide a safe, respectful and supportive environment where concerns are taken seriously and responded to appropriately.
Our safeguarding practice is guided by professional and ethical standards, including the BACP Ethical Framework, and relevant UK safeguarding legislation.
Designated Safeguarding Lead
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Ivy Light Therapy is Beth Robinson.
The DSL oversees safeguarding practice and supports decision-making, including liaison with external agencies where required.
Scope of this policy
This policy applies to all services provided by Ivy Light Therapy, including:
- Private therapy sessions
- Work with children and young people
- Low cost counselling services
- Partnerships with schools, colleges and organisations
When working within external settings, we also follow the safeguarding procedures of the organisation alongside our own.
Understanding safeguarding
Safeguarding involves protecting individuals from harm, including:
- Physical, emotional or sexual abuse
- Neglect
- Exploitation or coercion
- Risk of harm to self or others
Confidentiality and safeguarding
Confidentiality is an important part of therapy, however it is not absolute.
Information will be shared where necessary to protect safety, including where:
- There is a risk of serious harm to the individual or others
- A child or young person is at risk
- An adult is at risk and unable to protect themselves
- There is a legal or safeguarding obligation to disclose information
Wherever possible, this will be discussed openly with the client.
Recognising and responding to concerns
Safeguarding concerns may arise through disclosure, observation, or changes in behaviour.
Where a concern is identified, we will:
- Respond in a calm and supportive manner
- Assess and prioritise safety
- Record relevant information accurately
- Consult with the Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Take appropriate action, including referral where necessary
Information sharing
Where safeguarding concerns arise, information may be shared with appropriate services such as:
- Local safeguarding teams
- Social care services
- Emergency services
- Relevant professionals involved in care
Any information shared will be relevant, proportionate and necessary to protect safety.
Record keeping
Safeguarding concerns and actions are recorded appropriately and stored securely in line with our Privacy Policy and data protection requirements.
Working with organisations
When providing services within schools, colleges or organisations, we work in line with the setting’s safeguarding procedures and may liaise with designated safeguarding staff where appropriate.
Review
This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains aligned with current safeguarding standards and best practice.
